Had Jeremy and I registered in advance for the Bartlett 5k race, we would have been assigned a random race number to wear on race day. By registering in person the night before the race however, we were able to make a request for a specific race number. And, what was one of the numbers we requested? The image of Jeremy above wearing the actual race number is obviously a big clue, but yes, you’ve guessed it, the number was 400, to tie in with “400m To Go!” It was an opportunity too good to miss. ![]()

I know I’ve tried a couple of times, but I really can’t tell you how cool it was that you were able to get #400, and that you gave it to me to race with!
Near the end of the race a photographer said, “Keep it up, 400! You’re lookin’ strong!” As tired as I was, I was smiling from ear to ear. It wouldn’t have been the same if he had congratulated me on any other number.

Maybe I am missing something here, but what is the significance of 400m? Just curious. Love the site.

Hey Mike, thanks for the kind words about the site! We’re glad to have you. The significance of 400m is this:
When you’re working out with the Nike+ Sport kit, the iPod will provide spoken feedback to let you know how far you’ve run. For example, “1 kilometer completed,” or, “Halfway point, 2.5 miles to go” When you’re approaching the end of your workout, you’ll hear, “400 meters to go!”
I can’t tell you how motivating it is to hear that and to know your run is almost over! The only thing better than hearing, “400 meters to go!” is hearing, “Workout complete!”
Being Nike+ enthusiasts, Scott, Cory, and I couldn’t resist the tongue-in-cheek nod to Nike+ and Apple.

Funny, I have always used the basic mode on Nike +. Still doing the C25K - no set distances yet. (Yes, I am the same Mike from the C25K forums if you were wondering.)
Thanks

Hey Mike,
I used the basic mode a lot during my C25K program. Near the end of my program, I began using the custom distance workout. Since I was running a ~10 minute mile, I would set it to 2, 2.5, or 3 miles depending on the specified workout for that day. That’s when I heard, “400 meters to go!” for the first time. Very exciting.
